Know More: Ways To Keep Your Teeth Healthy

A beautiful smile starts with a healthy set of teeth. Practice these habits regularly to maintain good oral hygiene and prevent any future problems:

Brush Twice a Day, in The Morning and At Night

Brushing our teeth before bed eliminates the germs and plaque that accumulate throughout the day. No matter how tired you are – do not be tempted to skip brushing and hop straight into bed.

Brush Using the Right Brush and Technique

Doing a poor job of brushing is just as bad as not brushing at all. Use a good quality toothbrush and move it unhurriedly, in a gentle, circular motion across your teeth. This will remove plaque, that if left unchecked, can harden and cause gingivitis.

Don’t Forget to Brush Your Tongue

Most people are unaware that plaque can also build up on the tongue. This can cause bad mouth odor along with other oral health problems. Remember to gently brush your tongue every time you brush.

Use Fluoride Toothpaste – It’s Your Best Defense Against Tooth Decay

Don’t pick a tube off the shelf solely based on flavor, color, or whitening promises. When it comes to toothpaste, make sure you’re using one that contains fluoride.

Fluoride is an effective cavity-fighter. It strengthens the enamel and fights bacteria that can lead to tooth decay.

Floss Once a Day

Apart from getting out those annoying particles of food stuck between your teeth,  flossing also stimulates the gums. It also helps reduce plaque and lower inflammation.

Young children and older adults with arthritis may find it easier to use ready-to-use dental flossers.

Ask Your Dentist for Specific Mouthwash Recommendations/Prescriptions

Mouthwash cleans hard-to-brush areas, reduces the acid in the mouth, and remineralize the teeth.

Start Drinking More Water

Water is, not surprisingly, also good for oral health. Drinking water after eating can reduce the impact of sticky or acidic foods and beverages in between brushes.

Modify Your Diet

Eat more fresh, crunchy fruits, and vegetables. Lessen your consumption of sugary and acidic foods and beverages. They wear down your tooth enamel and cause cavities.

While cultivating these everyday habits will keep your teeth healthy, it’s still important to check in with your dentist – at least twice a year. Regular cleanings and checkups will ensure any cavities and potential issues are detected and treated on time.
